THE MINISTER & THE SOCIETY

December 1, 2004

The Minister of Magic, Otto Emmerich, held a public press conference yesterday to discuss the lingering rumors and apparent existence of ‘The Society’ – an underground wizarding organization that has been gathering members silently throughout our world with claims of peace, equality, and prosperity for all wizards alike.

To everyone’s utter astonishment, Emmerich declared himself as a Society member as well.  Standing atop a conjured stage in front of a silver podium, he reached out to those in the crowd.

“Yes, The Society does exist.  Yes, its members are growing.  It’s important that everyone understand the aims of this particular group.  Since the downfall of Lord Voldemort they have been working tirelessly to dash out the anti-muggle born beliefs of our former generations.  They have been attempting to modify the beliefs of the wizarding world – raising each and every wizard or witch up to the pedestal which they belong on.  Every one of us was born with a gift – a gift of magic, which makes all of us equal in The Society’s eyes.  Pureblood, halfblood, muggle-born – but we all share this wonderful gift, and we must use it to unite our people.”

Touching words from one of Britain’s most loved Ministers to date.

The Minister also touched on the population decline among wizards:

“Our numbers are decreasing.  Each year, fewer and fewer wizards are being born.  Now is the time to unite.  Now is the time to pull together, not only to ensure that our generation reaches its fullest potential, but to ensure that our population is maintained, and that wizards will continue to walk these streets for generations to come.”

This comes after alarming news from last month’s polls declaring that only 51 wizards were born last year, down from the previous year’s 127.

Of course, there was one more announcement made that no one expected:

“It is my personal belief, and the belief of my staff and The Society, that the wizarding world is ready to come out of hiding.  No longer can we wait behind walls and watch our numbers dwindle.  We must move up and out – move beyond the bindings which are currently keeping us, as a people, from growing.”

“This change is likely to take place over the coming months,” says a source close to Emmerich.

Reactions at the conference ranged from general confusion to pure ecstasy.  Personally, the Prophet cannot wait to see these changes come about.
